A practical hair-care routine after workouts

Plan the wash around where you will shower, and keep the method gentle.

A workout does not need a harder scrub. Wash when oil, sweat or product is what you want to remove, and handle the hair gently. If you shower at the gym, pack the products you will use, a towel and your comb, and leave time for a full rinse. If you shower at home, put the towel and products out before you leave.

Use the shampoo on wet hair and scalp, massage through the 2–3 minute wash, rinse thoroughly, and towel-dry. The tonic, if you use it, comes after towel-drying: sections, 2–3 minutes, leave in. At the gym that may mean a few minutes at the mirror. At home, keep it by the towel.

A pool session is a different routine from a gym session. Rinse after swimming and follow products that are meant for that use. For ordinary training days, a wash at a useful time and a complete rinse is enough.
