Gentle towel-drying and detangling
Press, don’t rub. Detangle in small sections, in the order that suits your hair.
After a rinse it is easy to rub with a towel and pull a comb from the roots. A towel that can absorb water, a wide-tooth comb and a slower order are enough to change that. Put the towel where you can reach it before you wash.
Straight hair and tightly curled or textured hair do not always want the same timing. A common starting point is to let straight hair dry a little before combing, and to detangle textured hair while it is damp. Then follow the instructions of any product you use. Begin near the ends and move upward. Pause at a knot instead of repeating a hard stroke.
If you use the tonic, give it its own moment after towel-drying: part, apply to the scalp, massage 2–3 minutes, leave in. Detangling and applying are two jobs. More on gentle handling: AAD habits that damage hair.
